MITI Dialogue 2024: Public-Private Sector Collaboration for Malaysia’s Reindustrialisation Agenda

Tuesday, 30 January 2024

The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) Dialogue is an annual programme that invites industry associations/chambers of commerce and business councils to provide a memorandum on the issues faced by the industry, in particular business operations of members and suggested solutions.

The dialogue is a platform for MITI to disseminate information on their policies and the focus of the ministry in the immediate terms to boost investment and international trade performance. Additionally, the dialogue allows MITI to address industry related issues and gather feedback from associations.

According to MITI, the MITI Dialogue 2024, held on 29 January 2024, concluded with a resolve on disciplined execution. The dialogue also emphasized a stronger public – private collaboration to ensure that Malaysia’s reindustrialisation agenda stays on course. This agenda was outlined in the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP2030) and was launched by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim on 1 September 2023.

The dialogue was led by Minister of Investment, Trade & Industry (MITI) Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Aziz, and was attended by nearly 300 people from 24 Ministries and MITI’s agencies, including representatives from 103 associations, chambers of commerce and business councils.

Among the concerns addressed in the dialogue was the necessity of educating and preparing SMEs for ESG disclosures in the National Industry ESG framework (i-ESG), attracting the right FDIs and encouraging the industry to adopt new technologies as quickly as possible. Tengku Zafrul highlighted that proper execution of NIMP is important for Malaysia to proceed with enhancing its national business and investment landscape competitiveness.
