MARKET DEVELOPMENT GRANT (MDG) - SUPPORT INITIATIVES FOR MALAYSIAN SME COMPANIES AFFECTED BY COVID-19

The Market Development Grant (MDG) is a support initiative in the form of a reimbursable grant. MDG was introduced in 2002 with the objective of assisting exporters in their efforts to promote Malaysian made products or services globally. The lifetime limit of MDG is RM300,000 and it is specifically formulated for Malaysian SME Companies, Professional Service Providers, Trade and Industry Associations, Chambers of Commerce, Professional Bodies and Co-operatives.

Additional RM200,000 under Pemerkasa

Under Pemerkasa and to assist SMEs during the trying COVID-19 pandemic, additional RM200,000 is allocated for company that has already exceeded the ceiling of RM300,000 for participation in international trade fair, both physical and virtual events. Please note that the deadline to qualify for Pemerkasa additional RM200,000, is only valid until 31 Dec 2021.

What Activities Are Eligible for Grant Funding?

Physical Events

  1. Participation in International Trade Fairs or Exhibitions held in Malaysia/Oversea
  2. Participation in Trade & Investment Missions (TIM) or Export Acceleration Missions (EAM)
  3. Participation in International Conferences Held Overseas
  4. Listing Fees for Made in Malaysia Products in Supermarkets or Hypermarkets or Retail Centres or Boutique Outlets Located Overseas
  • Maximum 6 nights of accommodation fee is claimable. (For e.g., if the event is 4 days)
  • Return Air fare claimable only for event’s destination.
  • Submission application- Within 30 calendar days from the last date of the promotion activity
  • Submission application- Within 30 calendar days from the last date of the promotion activity
  • Conferences must be related to export
  • Submission application- Within 30 calendar days from the last date of the promotion activity
  • Only limited one store for each country
  • Submission of Applications- From the first day of listing

Virtual Events

  1. Participation in Virtual International Trade Fairs In Malaysia Or Overseas
  2. Participation In Business To Business (B2B) Meetings Related To Virtual Trade Investment Missions And Export Acceleration Missions

Participation In Business To Business (B2B) Meetings Related To Virtual Trade Investment Missions And Export Acceleration Missions (Virtual)

  • Please check with international organiser is the events held in Malaysia endorsed by MATRADE.
  • Virtual events that are not export related such as business-to-consumer (B2C) events, cultural/ festival fairs and other similar events are not eligible to claim.

 

Additional Activities

  • Financial Compensation for Cancellation or Postponements of Trade Fair / Exhibition Locally or Overseas
  • Reimbursement on Logistic Cost for Sending Malaysian Products Overseas
  • International Certification for Exports
  • Registration of Intellectual Property (IP) for International Market
  • Advertising & Promotion (A&P) Expenses for Exports

Important notes- (Activities undertaken from 1 January 2021 - 31 December 2021, submission must be made before or by 12 August 2021)

  • Proof of letter from organiser required
  • If company decided to withdraw from the event, the company will not be eligible for any claim related to the event
  • Business to Business (B2B) event only.
  • Submit application per shipment prior 30 days of shipment date
  • Covered both CIF and FOB shipment
  • The activity is eligible to claim for B2B only. All B2C activity is not eligible to claim
  • Sending sample of product is not eligible.
  • Renewal of Certification is not eligible
  • Must submit application that held on this year (any payment that made this year)
  • All activities registered and take place under other country for export purpose
  • RM70,000 per application
  • Expenses for Exports/ international market only
