Export Opportunities in Nigeria

Nigeria’s strategic location in the West Africa region provides exporters with access to other markets in the region, offering opportunities for cross-border trade and expansion. Malaysia’s top export destinations in West Africa includes Nigeria, Togo, Ghana, Senegal and Benin. The major exports from Malaysia to West Africa in year 2023 are palm oil-based agriculture products, palm oil-based manufacture products, processed food, petroleum products, and machinery equipment and parts.

There is a growing demand for processed and packaged food products in the Nigeria market, driven by factors such as urbanization, changing consumer preferences and increasing disposable incomes. There is also a demand for organic and specialty food products, frozen food (seafood), ready to eat meals, and instant coffee.

There is high export potential for halal products and services in the Nigeria market, as Nigeria is ranked as the 11th largest exporter of halal products in Africa, with food exports accounting for 98% of all exports. In 2022, domestic spending on halal economy products and services in Nigeria has reached USD 107 billion and expected to reach USD 180 billion by 2027. Due to its bilateral regional and multilateral trade agreements, Nigeria also has the potential to be a hub for the halal economy in Africa.
