The Republic of Kosovo is a developing country with an upper-middle-income economy. Since its independence in 2008, Kosovo’s economy has grown each year thanks to its low government debt and improved banking systems. In 2021, Kosovo’s total trade grew 47.42% valued at $6.36 billion with imports from Malaysia totalling $5.44 million.

Globally, Malaysia is Kosovo’s 53^rd largest trading partner. Malaysia’s highest exports to Kosovo includes electrical and electronics, rubber articles, palm oil, machineries and optical equipment. Malaysian exporters who are interested to expand their business in the Kosovo market can explore the growing consumer retail segment. Processed foods has high export potential, especially prepared cereal and flour preparation, cocoa and cocoa preparations, beverages and palm oil products.

Kosovo offers many opportunities for Malaysian exporters as consumers have a strong positive perception towards Malaysia and there is an untapped halal market. Malaysia businesses can also take advantage of the growing e-commerce market in Kosovo. Besides that, Kosovo is a tax friendly business environment with a high Ease of Doing Business ranking. Kosovo is also member of the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA) and has Free Trade Agreements with several Balkan countries, which allows Malaysia businesses to penetrate those markets more easily.
